Not Printed. Woven.

In the mountains of San Pablito, Mexico, paper is not made—it is woven by hand. Artisans lay strips of Jonote bark into lattice grids and openwork spirals, then fuse them using volcanic stone. This is Amate bark paper—a traditional Mexican art form practiced by Otomí families for over a century.

Meet the Artisan

Maria Luna

Maria is an Otomí artist from the mountains of Puebla, where her family has crafted Amate bark paper for five generations. She learned ancient techniques from her grandmother—pounding Jonote bark with volcanic stone, weaving each knot by hand. At 28, she supports her two children through the same tradition.
